چکیده
Sub-modeling techniques implemented in commercial finite element codes were reviewed. New sub-modeling applications structural mechanics stress analysis are presented. methods based on displacement and force cut boundary application compared. Advantages disadvantages of these discussed. The case nested sub-models is demonstrated.

Appropriate Loading Techniques in Finite Element Analysis of Underground Structures
Stability of underground structures is assessed by comparing rock strength with induced stresses resulted from ground stresses. Rock mass surrounding the opening may fail either by fracture or excessive deformation caused. Accurate calculation of induced stresses is therefore fundamental in the stability analysis of an opening. Although numerical methods, particularly finite element method, are...
متن کاملDevelopment of a Micro-Finite Element Model of the Intervertebral Disc using Sub-modeling Techniques
INTRODUCTION The annulus fibrosus (AF) consists primarily of tightly arranged concentric lamellae of parallel type I collagen fiber bundles, elastin, proteoglycans, water and cells, interconnected by translamellar bridging networks [1,2]. Collagen fibers are oriented approximately 25° to 45° to the transverse plane of the disc and are arranged in alternating directions within each successive la...
متن کاملFracture Mechanics Analysis of Fourth Lumbar Vertebra in Method of Finite Element Analysis
Objective: In this paper, finite element model of the L4 vertebra subjected to combination of compression and flexion loading in isotropic and anisotropic cases is investigated. Methods: In both cases, the vertebra is considered homogeneous. Also, the body of vertebra is divided to cancellous and cortical sections in anisotropic model, but the process is assumed isotropic such as isotropic mode...
متن کاملEdge-based Finite Element Techniques for Nonlinear Solid Mechanics Problems
Edge-based data structures are used to improve computational efficiency of Inexact Newton methods for solving finite element nonlinear solid mechanics problems on unstructured meshes. Edge-based data structures are employed to store the stiffness matrix coefficients and to compute sparse matrix-vector products needed in the inner iterative driver of the Inexact Newton method. Numerical experime...
